MY JOURNEY TO REDEMPTION

Hosea 6:1

Come and let us return to the Lord

For He has torn, but He will heal us;

He has stricken, but He will bind us up

Porn Mogul Disgraces the Memory of Caylee Anthony

The porn industry has reached an all-time low, and I cannot help but voice my disgust regarding the events that took place today.

Yesterday, a grand jury found Casey Anthony , the woman indicted in the death of her 3-year old daughter, Caylee, not guilty of murder. While many people, including myself, disagree with this decision, my desire is not to discuss this case, or my own feelings about it. Rather, I would like to focus on a very disturbing development regarding some events that unfolded after the verdict.

Steven Hirsch, founder and co-chairman of Vivid Entertainment, one of the largest mainstream porn companies in the United States, has evidently wasted no time in trying to capitalize off of the tragic death of this little girl, by offering Casey Anthony a porn contract, just one day after the verdict was handed down, and many people are still grieving over her death. In his own words:

It’s not going to be easy for her, and we believe that we can help her transition into a new life

Incidents involving the death of children are incredibly emotional for most people. The death of little Caylee was indeed a tragedy, and whether or not her mother actually murdered her is beside the point. There are still a lot of raw feelings and emotions tied to this case, and for Steve Hirsch to try and make money off of this tragedy, and so soon after what most people feel was a grave injustice, is beyond despicable.

Vivid Entertainment has definitely not been known for exercising tact or good taste. Earlier this year, Vivid offered Octomom Nadya Suleman $1 million to star in a porn movie, when she was on the brink of losing her home. Octomom declined the offer, but that didn’t stop Steve Hirsch and Vivid Entertainment from relentlessly pursuing her, even offering to buy her home.

Now, they are going after a woman whom most people believe was, without a shadow of a doubt, guilty of murdering her own precious child, hiding the body, and lying to police...and just ONE DAY after the verdict. The video company wants to make sure to capitalize on the death of Caylee while her mom is still in the news. Mr. Hirsch DID withdraw his offer to Casey Anthony, but ONLY after severe public backlash. Even so, just the fact that he was WILLING to capitalize on the death of this little girl says something about his ethics, which go way beyond perversion, and into the realm of absolute callousness.

Steve Hirsch and Vivid Entertainment represent the mindset of an industry that will stop at nothing to make a buck. The porn industry has absolutely no regard for adults OR children. Earlier this year, porn star Lupe Fuentes and her husband were charged with the possession and production of child pornography. Is it any wonder that paedophiles are always major consumers of pornography?

It comes as no surprise that Steve Hirsch would have absolutely no feelings toward this tragedy, involving a 3-year old baby girl, other than to try and make money off of it. The porn industry has no regard for children, OR their welfare. If they can capitalize on their innocence, why not their death?

Jesus Christ, on the other hand, treasures children, and warns against anyone who may seek to harm them in any way, or gives no regard for them. In Mt. 18:10, Jesus said:

Take heed that you do not despise one of these little ones, for I say to you that in heaven their angels always see the face of My Father who is in heaven

Anyone who intends harm, or gives no regard for, a child, it is better that a millstone be hung around his neck, and he be thrown into the midst of the sea. On the other hand, Satan has no regard for anyone, especially children. Matthew 17 tells the account of a young boy delivered from demonic oppression. The demon tried to kill him by throwing him into the fire and the water.

Children are very precious to the Lord, and anyone who would look to capitalize on the brutal murder of one, even if indirectly, commits grave and serious sin. Although it’s true that Casey might very well profit off of book deals and interviews down the road, this goes WAY beyond anything like that, in that there is an element of perversion involved.

Pornography, by its very nature, is victimization. Anyone who knows anything about the inner workings of this evil industry knows the damage that it causes those involved. To offer this woman a porn contract, and so soon after the shocking and sad verdict (which most people feel to be completely unjust) is to cheapen the memory of this little girl, and disgrace the family even further.

The issue here is not whether the woman is guilty or not guilty. The issue here, at least in this blog, is the memory of a little girl whose death still saddens so many people.

  1. A porn contract would destroy Casey's life.
